MapmyIndia Launches Local Search App Explore On Windows 8

Location based services and Maps company MapmyIndia has launched a Windows Phone 8 app called Explore, which aims to allow users to discover points of interest (POIs) around their location. The app is currently available a free download on Windows Phone Store with an Android version expected soon.

While we weren’t able to try out the app, the company claims to offer millions of POIs across various categories like ATMs, restaurants, hotels and restaurants and others. Users can either browse through these places by category and choose a certain place or search for their preferred place and view navigational directions to the place. Users can also add new POIs to the app, save frequent destinations as favorites and rate & review places around their location.

MapmyIndia says that it will also offer place recommendations across three categories – eat & drink, places to see and and places to stay, along with a showcase section which highlights certain popular places in that specific location.

Besides this, users can login with their Facebook credentials to pin their favorite places, which seems to be MapmyIndia’s version of checking into a location and share their reviews and photos on their Facebook Timeline.

Earlier this month, MapmyIndia had introduced real time traffic information for three cities – Bangalore, Delhi NCR and Mumbai on its mobile apps. It had also recently launched a people locator application called Locate.
