July 2013: India Has 15.24M Broadband, 731.39M Active Mobile Connections

India’s broadband connection base increased by 0.33% to 15.24 million at the end of July 2013, from 15.19 million reported at the end of June, according to the Indian Telecom regulator TRAI

The total number of mobile connections in the country (including multi-SIM and inactive connections) increased to 874.87 million in July 2013, but the active mobile connection base was much less at 731.39 million, which is around 83.60% of the total. Don’t confuse this with mobile users or connections though, since it includes multi-SIM users.

Active User Base of Telecom Operators

The Active connection data represents peak VLR (Visitor Location Register) data for the month. Some stats:

– There were 731.39 million active connection in the month of July.
– Idea has 97.58% of its connections active – the maximum among all the operators.
– Vodafone has the second highest active connection base of 95.17%, followed by Airtel at 95.16%.

In terms of the number of active connections, Airtel leads with 182.12 million connections followed by Vodafone at 146.96 million connections.

Mobile Operator Leaderboard For July 2013:

– Aircel added 0.75 million connections, taking its connection base to 61.72 million.
– RCOM added 0.51 million connections, taking its connection base to 126.24 million.
– Airtel added 0.47 million connections, taking its connection base to 191.38 million.
– Vodafone lost 0.61 million connections, taking its connection base to 154.42 million.

Circles July 2013

– In terms of active connections, West Bengal leads with 88.74% active connections, followed by Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat. Tamil Nadu has just 73.33% active connections, the lowest among all circles.

– UP (East) has the most number of connections, with 74,342,322 connections. Tamil Nadu is second with 73,036,204 connections and Maharashtra is third, with 68,601,883 connections.

– Bharti Airtel holds the maximum percentage market share of wireless connections at 21.88%, followed by Vodafone at 17.65%, Reliance at 14.43%, Idea at 14.32% and BSNL at 11.21%
