Porting requests were submitted for 2.37 million connections in the month of August 2013, according to the Indian Telecom regulator TRAI. This is a 10.77% increase from 2.23 million porting requests reported in July 2013. India has a total mobile connection base of 876.72 million connections (735.91 million active). For the month of August, the maximum number of requests in Zone-I (North and West India) were received in Gujarat at 0.34 million. Jammu & Kashmir which has one of the lowest user base, continues to receive the lowest number of requests at 453. In Zone-II (South and East India), Andhra Pradesh leads, with 0.28 million customers requesting for number porting till date, followed by Karnataka, which received 0.19 million requests. There were just 3,267 requests from the North East circle. Note that TRAI has not provided any operator wise breakdown for these number porting requests. Its also worth noting that there is some discrepancy in the Zone II total porting requests. While TRAI pegs the total at 47.19 million (47,185,877), if we calculate the total sum, it comes to around 47.29 million (47,285,877) requests.
