Flipkart Android App Goes Native

E-commerce major Flipkart has finally released a native version of its Android app on the Play Store. While the app was available earlier on the Play Store, it was essentially a webpage wrapped as an app.

When we checked, the app seems to offer the same features as its web version, although it does offer an additional feature of barcode scanning, which allows users to scan the barcodes of products to view their listings on Flipkart. It also offers a homescreen widget which showcases the current offers on the site.

Indian device maker Micromax has partnered with BlackBerry to bundle the upcoming BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) on its new Canvas range of smartphones from the first week of October. BlackBerry Messenger is expected to be available from tomorrow on Android and the day after on iOS.

What’s interesting is that Micromax had also inked a similar deal with Bharti Softbank-backed messaging app Hike to bundle the app onto its flagship Android smartphone Canvas 4. However, its not clear if the deal was limited to Canvas 4 itself since Hike had then declined to comment on this deal to Medianama. Also remember that Micromax has its own messaging app called Hookup.

Airtel 4G Subscribers

India’s largest telco Airtel has a 4G userbase of 28,000 subscribers as of Q2 2013, reports TelecomLead. It says the number is based on the actual 4G data card shipment stats. Airtel spokesperson however has declined to comment on this to the publication.

Remember that Airtel has not disclosed any information on its 4G subscriber information in the previous quarter and the last number we have is of last September when the Minister of State for Communications & Information Technology, Milind Deora had mentioned that Airtel has been able to sign-up only 3,180 subscribers since launch.
