Web Accounted For Only 7% Of NDTV Revenues In FY13

Web accounted for only 7% of NDTV’s consolidated revenues for the year ending March 31, 2013 (FY13), up from 5% in FY12 and 4% in FY11. The company had reported a consolidated revenue of Rs 551.4 crore for FY13, which translates to web revenues of around 38.6 crore for the fiscal.

The contribution from ad sales has declined year on year to 54% for FY13, down from 62% in FY12, however it continues to the highest revenue contributor for NDTV. The contribution of subscription revenue has also marginally declined to 13% for FY13 for 14% in FY12, while the contribution of events business has significantly increased to 11% for FY13, up from 6% in FY12.

NDTV Web Revenues

NDTV Convergence, the new media subsidiary of NDTV group which manages the company’s Internet and mobile business, reported a turnover of Rs 54.46 crore for the fiscal, up 60.4% from Rs 33.95 crore for FY12. The company posted a profit of Rs 7.72 crore for the fiscal, up 43.2% from 5.39 crore profit in FY12.

Its not clear if the merger of NDTV Convergence Ltd and NDTV Labs has commenced yet, since NDTV has not disclosed any specific information on this. In May 2012, NDTV had approved this merger and it had received an in-principal approval from the company board on November 1, 2012. In February 2013, NDTV had informed that both the entities will be merged to a new unnamed subsidiary, however it had informed in May 2013, that the merger is yet to commence. We wonder what’s taking so long for this merger to commence, considering it has been more than an year since the initial announcement.

NDTV Q1-FY14 Results: NDTV reported a total revenue of Rs 102.4 crore for the quarter ending June 30, 2013 (Q1-FY14), down from Rs 106.83 crore revenues in the same quarter last year. The company reported net loss of Rs 24 crore for the quarter, an improvement from Rs 26.1 crore loss in the same quarter last year. It had however reported a net profit of Rs 27.81 crore last quarter.

The company has not disclosed any information on its Internet businesses, although its e-commerce venture Indianroots.com went live last week. The e-commerce venture claims to offer ethnic wear from 80 designers and 300 brands. NDTV subsidiaries NDTV Worldwide and NDTV Convergence had picked up 37.55% stake and 33.2% stake in the e-commerce venture respectively last quarter.
