Similar to DogSpot, FishSpot will offer information on fishes as well as fish-related products like fish food, aquariums, aquarium decorations, filters and heaters among others. The company says it offers products for both marine water and fresh water aquarium owners and it also offers food and habitat for sea creatures like Turtle.
Note that DogSpot.in previously offered fish related products and Dogspot.in founder Rana Atreya had told Medianama in February 2013, that they were launching a fish-focused online shop in the following month, which was possibly delayed by couple of months. Going forward, the company also plans to add cat and bird focused websites in the next few months.
Partners: The company claims that it has an exclusive deal with the European aquarium product brand Fluval and also has tie-ups with more than 25 brands like Sera, RS Electrical, Rid-All, JBJ, Aqua Plantasy, Tokyu, Aquaone, Sharp, Marina and Living World among others. It claims to currently offer more than 700 fish and reptile products on the site and hopes to increase it to 1,7000 in the next two months.
When we checked, we noticed that one could browse through various fish related products through different sections on the homepage or head over to any specific product category through the homepage. The site allows users to sort products based on popularity and pricing and filter products based on availability, brands, product type, price range and any custom parameters related to the product.
One can click on any product to browse through more information and purchase the product. At present, the site offers online payment options like credit and debit card, net banking, cash on delivery and offline payment options like cheque and demand drafts. It also claims to ship products within 2-3 business days and offers free shipping within India, although it charges a flat Rs 50 shipping fee if the user opts for Cash on Delivery payment mode.
PetsGlam’s Focus On Online Pets Segment: Unlike other e-commerce sites which is focusing only on popular categories, PetsGlam seems to be going after the unexplored online pet industry, one pet at a time. It first launched the dog-focused DogSpot.in, then setup FishSpot.in and now plans to launch bird-focused and cat focused websites in the next few months. Dogspot also powers the pet shop section of Tradus.in and has tied up with ShopClues and Amazon’s Junglee.com to offer deals on dog products and we wonder if the company will also be extending the partnership to FishSpot as well.
While the segment is still very niche in the country, we feel the company’s main growth areas will be tier-2 and tier-3 cities in the country, where people tend to have more pets, while there are no pet shops to cater to these pet owners.
Besides FishSpot, AskForPets also offers fish related products like aquariums, fish tank decor and fish food among others.
