Facebook has 82 million monthly active users (MAUs) in India for the quarter ending June 31, 2013, reports PTI (via The Times Of India) citing Facebook India’s Country Growth Manager Kevin D’Souza. This is up 5.1% from from 78 million users in the previous quarter and a 39% growth from 59 million users in the same quarter last year. India currently accounts for 7% of Facebook’s user base, globally.

D’Souza also told The Hindu Business Line that Facebook recorded 62 million mobile users for the quarter. What is not clear, though, is how many users are accessing Facebook only through mobile, as opposed to both PC’s and mobiles. At a global level, Facebook had reported 819 million monthly active users for the quarter, of which around 219 million MAUs accessed Facebook solely through mobile, and 600 million accessed from both personal computers and mobile devices. We’ve asked Facebook for a clarification on the India numbers.

Emily White, Facebook’s Director of Mobile Partnerships, had said a year ago that 30% of Facebook’s Indian users access the service only through mobile phones, and 30% of its new registrations in India were via mobile.

Last month, Facebook had informed that Asia had clocked 339 million MAUs for the quarter, up from 255 million MAUs in Q2 2013 and accounting for 29.5% of Facebook’s total user base. The region however registered revenues of $247 million for the quarter, resulting in an average revenue per user (ARPU) of only $0.75, which is the second lowest revenue for the company, followed only by the ‘Rest of World’ region which reported an ARPU of $0.63.

Globally, it has 1.15 billion MAUs for the quarter ending June 30, 2013, up 21% year-on year (YoY). The average Daily Active Users (DAUs) was at 699 million for the quarter, up 27% increase YoY and the mobile MAUs were at 819 million for the quarter, a 51% increase YoY.
