While PlayCez founder Ashwani Gaur declined to confirm or deny this acquisition to Medianama, GSF accelerator founder and PlayCez investor Rajesh Sawhney has confirmed this acquisition. We have contacted IndiaMART for more details on this acquisition and will update once we get a response.
PlayCez had previously raised seed investment from GSF India, iXiGO CEO Aloke Bajpai and Mukul Singhal of SAIF Partners (in personal capacity). While the company hadn’t disclosed the amount of funds raised then, Gaur had told TechCrunch that they had raised $500,000 in the round. PlayCez was also part of GSF Accelerator’s inaugural startup batch.
Founded in 2010, PlayCez is a local event discovery platform which monitors social media and location check-in activity in an area, and recommends popular events and activities to users by identifying locations like bars, restaurants, night clubs, among others in that area and tracking the highest consumer traffic in those places. It also allows users to check events and activities based on distance and time.
PlayCez currently offers an iPhone app and is available in five cities including Delhi (NCR), Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Pune among others. Another player in this space is NH7’s InTown which recently expanded to Delhi and is now available in two cities (Mumbai & Delhi). Update: Gaur has informed that its Android and Windows phone applications are in private beta.
On the other hand, Biztradeshows is focused on corporate events and offers a directory of upcoming business trade shows, conferences, exhibitions, fairs and convention centers among others, across various countries. So we believe that the company could probably use PlayCez’s technology to improve its existing event offerings and also possibly launch an event discovery platform for its customers.
