Aircel’s Arvinder Gujral Joins Twitter India As Mobile Biz Dev Head

Arvinder GujralTwitter has confirmed to MediaNama that Arvinder Gujral, previously at Aircel as its Head of Data, VAS and New Products has joined the company as its Head of Mobile Business Development for India and South East Asia. Prior to joining Twitter and Aircel, Gujral was with Geodesic as Director (Product Marketing), and Ciber as VP (Business Development). He has also worked at iGate Global Solutions, Infosys, and FCB Ulka Advertising.

Twitter has been building up its presence in India and looking to tie up with network carriers, operators and television channels, ever since Rishi Jaitly joined Twitter in November 2012, as a Director, for the India market.

On the mobile front, Twitter recently partnered with Vodafone India to provide free access to its service, although that hasn’t quite worked out well for them, with many customers unable to access Twitter through apps. Twitter has also inked similar deals with Airtel in December 2011 and Reliance Communications in April 2013.

Gujral’s mandate will be to probably look at better integration with telecom operators, and to work with Komli Media, which acquired the mandate for selling Promoted Products (essentially, advertising on Twitter) in India.
