Brihan Mumbai Electric Supply & Transport (BEST) has partnered with My Mobile Payments Ltd (MMPL), a Calpian backed mobile payment service provider, to offer bill payment through its mobile wallet, reports Times of India.
BEST General Manager Om Prakash Gupta said to the publication that one can either register for a wallet with 50 MMPL franchisees or also register online. Note that MMPL operates prepaid wallets where one can load cash into their wallet and use it to make payments for mobile bills, DTH, and energy.
BEST already provides one to make a payment online through its BEST portal. The portal accepts payment through Netbanking, Debit Cards, Credit Cards, etc. One can also make a payment from sites such as Billdesk, Bill Junction, among others. Most nationalized banks such as SBI, HDFC, ICICI, etc also provide bill payment facility. Earlier this month, Reliance had also partnered with MMPL to offer its bill payment through MMPL’s mobile wallet.
Note that since MMPL provides money on mobile which is a semi closed wallet. This means users can load cash into the wallet but cannot withdraw it, due to RBI restrictions.
Earlier today, MMPL claimed to have clocked 57.8 million unique users as of June 30, 2013, up from 53 million users reported last month. The service had last reported a processed transaction volume of more than Rs 88.7 crore as of May 2013, up from Rs 85.1 crore in April 2013, Rs 81 crore in March 2013 and Rs 66.1 crore in February 2013.
Money On Mobile competes with Airtel Money, Vodafone’s M-Pesa, Atom Technologies, Beam Money, Paymate, Zipcash, Happay and FINO’s Alpha Payment Services among others.
