Business conglomerate, Neesa Group has launched an online national Hindi news and infotainment channel called JanoDuniya.tv that would cover news, entertainment, lifestyle, technology, travel, business, philosophy, among others in Hindi.
Live Webcast: The website also provides a 24×7 live webcast of national, international, business, entertainment and sports news on its homepage. When we checked their website, we noticed that the website provides live webcast only on the home page and videos page.
News coverage: The navigation bar offers news across categories including national, international, sports, Bollywood, business, lifestyle, travel, health and video. Apart from these, the website also features other sections like Jano special, Front page, IPL, new videos, most popular stories, and news in photos. Interestingly, we noticed that home page also has a section that carries Gujarat specific news which may be because their parent company is based out of Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
Every categories page, has the latest news story in that category and also a section that features older news. The video section also features the live webcast section along with the videos which are YouTube videos embedded into the website and have been categorized under India, world, entertainment, sports, lifestyle and business. Interestingly, it appears that the video section of the website has not been updated, this is despite the fact that their YouTube channel has been recently updated. We also noticed that it automatically switches to next video under the category once the video ends, which can be quite annoying for people on limited bandwidth.
The section headings on the website are English words written in Hindi. Similarly, several other categories like the Latest news, More National News sections have been partly written in English and partly in Hindi and some are entirely written in English. Even their tweets and ads are in English. Words like lifestyle literally written in Hindi may be difficult for a purely Hindi speaking audience to understand and use the website. It appears that only readers with some amount of English knowledge can access the website in its current form.
Competition: There are several other Hindi news websites like Dainik Bhaskar, Times Internet’s Navbharat Times, Aaj Tak, among others that cater to the Hindi speaking regional audiences of the country. BBC also has its BBC Hindi website that localizes BBC news for Indian audience and has also launched its BBC Hindi app on android.
