Opera Software, the browser company, which also runs its own mobile apps store, has announced promotional options for developers who submit their app to the Opera mobile store including:– Opera Mobile Store sponsored product listings: Sponsored product listings on the homepage as well as major content categories.
– Opera Mobile Store featured app banners: Rich graphical ad units showcasing developer apps.
– Smart Page: Browser launch-page banners available in the new Opera Mini 7
– Smart text banners: Contextually-relevant app promotions within Opera’s new smart content aggregation service, available in Opera Mini 7
– App of the Week promotions on Opera’s Facebook and Twitter pages, targeted by region
13m Monthly users,0.5m daily app downloads: The company claims that since its launch, Opera Mobile Store receives 13 million unique user visits per month from India alone and that daily app downloads on the mobile store is now about half a million. Last year, Opera launched its mobile store that offers free as well as paid applications on most devices and platforms, including Android, Java, Symbian, BlackBerry and iOS. It launched the Mobile store with help from mobile app marketplace Appia, which provided the storefront e-commerce technology.
Opera claims that it has more than 200 million unique users of various Opera products including Opera desktop, Opera Mini, and Opera Mobile. In June 2012, Opera Software, in its State of the Mobile Web (SMW) report tracking mobile browsing trends on the basis of Opera Mini (its mobile browser) usage, reported that India is now the largest Opera Mini country, in terms of unique users per month.
In February 2012, during the Mobile Web Congress (MWC) held in Barcelona, the company had announced an app promotional portal for developers where it allowed app developers and publishers to bid for customer downloads. It allowed developers to target users based on region, platform, handset, among others.
Recently, Opera released Opera Mini 7 for feature phones with features such as Smart Page that gives users an instant update on their most visited sites, news, weather, entertainment and sports highlights, and ability to connect to social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter right on the start page.
Other Mobile App Stores
Opera Mobile Store competes with Amazon’s App Store, Mobango and GetJar. Apart from that it also competes app stores from handset manufacturers/mobile OS ecosystems such as Apple’s App Store, Google Play, Nokia Store and BlackBerry App World.
