Naukri.com: Hiring In Media, Internet & Mobile Sector Up By 2% In Aug 2012

According to Naukri.com‘s Job Speak Index, which is an indicator of job listings on its portal, the hiring activity in the Media sector (which includes Internet and Mobile sectors, according to the company’s classification) has increased by 2% in August 2012, when compared to the hiring activity in July 2012. The company also states that the hiring activity has increased by 9% in the last six months and 15% year-on-year.

Naukri attributes this increase to the growing Internet sector where it claims to have seen increased hiring activity for six months in a row. The Naukri Job Speak index for the sector stood at 1049 for August 2012, up 1.74% from 1031 in July 2012 and up 11.12% from 944 in June 2012. Note that the index uses the total number of jobs in July 2008 as a base (of 1000).

The overall Job Index however dipped with the hiring activity in Aug 2012 being 4% lower, when compared to May 2011 after remaining almost flat for five months in a row. The job index dipped to 1145, from 1197 last month and 1210 in June 2012. The company attributed this dip to a bleak market sentiment.

Sectors: Majority of the industry sectors witnessed a decline in hiring activity during the month. Construction and Engineering sector registered the highest month on month dip with the hiring activity declining by 13% in Aug-12, in comparison to Jul-12. Software services and Insurance sectors witnessed its recruitment activity decline by 2% in August 2012 and Oil & Gas, BPO, Telecom and Auto Sector witnessed its recruitment activity decline in the range of 6% to 9% for the month.

On the flipside, Banking sector witnessed a growth in recruitment activities with the hiring activity increasing by 12% in August 2012. The company attributes this growth to the increased hiring activity in the Public Sector Banks.

Increasing Demand for Banking professionals: Naukri states that the demand for banking professionals had increased during the month, with the index growing by 20% in August 2012 as compared to the previous month.  However, the demand for Sales and ITES professionals has dipped by 6% respectively during the month and the demand for Project management professionals has registered the highest monthly dip during the month, with the index declining by 13% in Aug 2012 as compared to the previous month.
