As the market for caller ringback tones struggles to grow, and physical distribution of music declines, new opportunities have cropped up online through streaming and digital music sales. We’re pleased to have on board as speakers for The #NAMA Conference, Vijay Nair and Shreyas Srinivasan of Only Much Louder, an outlier venture, building a business that spans events (the NH7 Weekender, for one), artiste management, digital distribution, online publishing and radio, television (The Dewarists), all built around independent music, and answering for us the questions – what can you do with music? What should you do with music? We’ll speak with them about what it takes to build an independent music business, the future of music labels, how digital distribution will impact music, and maybe even – what should Bollywood do with music?

Speaker Profile: Vijay Nair, CEO, Only Much Louder

Vijay Nair is the CEO of Only Much Louder. He embarked on his music career at an early age managing Indian acts. What started as a hobby became a business venture when he founded Only Much Louder, the first artist management company for indie bands in India. Vijay’s career started at the age of 15 when he started consulting Procter & Gamble on their Indian youth portal Masti.com.

Subsequently, he worked with the Indian indie music zine Gigpad.com and got initiated into the music business. He dropped out from college at the age of 18 and started managing leading acts in the Indian independent scene, including Pentagram, Zero, PDV and AFS. Over the next few years, OML evolved from an artist management company and co-founded an indie music label, a production house and a live events division.

In 2009, Vijay was the first Indian to win the prestigious British Council International Young Music Entrepreneur of the Year award. He has been identified by many publications including India Today, CNN and the National Knowledge Commission as one of the young Indian entrepreneurs to watch out for in the media and entertainment space.

Shreyas Srinivasan, co-founder OML Digital

Shreyas Srinivasan joined OML in April 2010 and founded OML’s digital business. He has since been instrumental in creating and launching NH7.in. He also manages e-ticketing and digital marketing at OML.

Before OML he was the co-founder of RadioVeRVe, one of India’s first internet radio stations dedicated to promoting Independent Music. He is a well know open source developer and speaks extensively on open source and related technologies.

He hopes to be a professional tennis player in his next life and wants to build awesome products in this one.

About #NAMA

A transformation is taking place in both the Internet and Mobile services businesses. Along with uncertainty, there is significant opportunity. #NAMA seeks to shed light on challenges and uncertainties, what market leaders are doing about it, and point towards opportunities through deep, insightful and meaningful discussions and sharing of experiences.

Our focus is on providing the audience with valuable insight on the decisions that are being made, why they’re being made, what developments are influencing them, and how they will impact the growth of the digital industry going forward. We will provide #NAMA attendees with significant and varied learning about the digital ecosystem, and give them a reason to stay in the conference hall, not just chat in the hallway.

#NAMA will be a conference with a healthy mix of ideas, thought leadership and with important operational questions being addressed, with fresh ideas being shared and showcased, and hopefully, defining a sense of directions in these uncertain times, and a vision. #NAMA is being organized by MediaNama, the premier publication on the evolution of India’s digital ecosystem, being held on October 10th 2012, at The Westin, in Gurgaon
