Internet domain registrar and web hosting provider GoDaddy has now introduced several new India-specific payment options including NetBanking, cash cards and mobile payments, in addition to the regular credit cards and debit cards payment modes.
Interestingly, while the company self-processes all transactions done through credit and debit cards, it has tied up with the payment gateway CCAvenue to offer these new payment modes. At the time of writing this article, CCAvenue’s payment gateway supports net banking for several banks, cash card payments through Done card, ICash Card, Itz Cash, and OxiCash cash cards and mobile payments through State Bank Of India and Paymate.
Why is this important? This is a significant move from GoDaddy India since it would enable more users who either don’t have a credit card or are hesitant to use their credit cards online, to purchase domains from the portal. However, it was quite expected considering that GoDaddy had launched its Indian operations in June 2012, and GoDaddy CEO Warren Adelman had noted India as a priority market under its global expansion plans. He had also stated that they intend to expand the company’s footprint in the country and make it GoDaddy’s largest international office by the end of this year.
GoDaddy India Stats: Along with this announcement, GoDaddy also stated that its customers from India has increased by 52% since January 2012 and 91% year-on-year (July 2011-July 2012). Also, as anticipated earlier, the company has also opened a new support centre with local employees in Hyderabad to retail its suite of services including Web hosting, domain name registrations and SSL Certificates to Indian businesses and serve its existing Indian customers better.
The company claimed that GoDaddy India currently supports more than 120,000 customers, although there is currently no information on how many of them are business and how many are individual customers. GoDaddy India also claimed that its monthly web traffic to in.GoDaddy.com has significantly increased, recording a 54% growth year-on-year.
Globally, GoDaddy claims to have more than 10.4 million customers and manages more than 53 million domain names at present.
