Mobile TV service provider, Zenga TV, has appointed Abhishek Joshi, as the company’s new CEO. He will be responsible for identifying and developing new revenue channels for the ZengaTV platforms, for reaching out to different advertisers, and for the company’s overall growth. Following Joshi’s appointment, Shabir Momin, the erstwhile CEO of the company, has been promoted as Managing Director & Chief Technical Officer of the company.
Joshi was previously with Sony Entertainment Television, where he was Assistant Vice President, Marketing, being part of the team responsible for show campaigns and format brands such as Indian Idol 6, IPL, Kaun Banega Crorepati 5(KBC), X factor and other fiction based shows. Prior to that, he served as Senior Manager, On air presentation, Research and Stratehy at Sony’s sports, events and movies network, MAX. He’s also had a stint with Reliance Big Pictures.
Zenga claims to have registered 65 million video views, month on month across different channels. Its mobile tv platform offers more than 100 TV channels and more than 10,000 Movies. ZengaTV’s service is operator agnostic and can be accessed through any mobile operators as well as on the web, free of charge. Although the company does not monetise via user subscription, it does have tie-ups for events, and had signed a deal with Indiagames for ondeck telco deployments.
Presently, the service offers various channels including Aaj Tak, UTV Movies, UTV Bindas, Headlines Today, 9XM, Sahara Filmy, Delhi AajTak, India TV, among others. Zenga TV also offers movies and reality shows like Players and Fitrat. Apart from that, it offers other products like CrickZenga – a free service that offers realtime coverage of cricket matches and MediaGroove which provides archived video content across various categories including politics, national, international, entertainment, among others.
Zenga recently partnered with Sporty Solutionz to provide an exclusive mobile video streaming for the India-Sri Lanka 5 ODI’s and one T20 slated to start on July 21, 2012 in Sri Lanka. The partnership also provides ZengaTV with post-match highlights and the content will be made available on demand for a 30-day period post match. ZengaTV users will be able to watch the entire match or just a summary of the match in that 30-day period.
The company had also inked a tie-up with Turner Broadcasting System to offer access to channels like CNN, Pogo and Cartoon Network on its service. Earlier in 2011, Zenga TV inked a deal with 9x Tashan to distribute the channel on its service. Zenga also partnered with ETV and Raj TV . The company had also announced a reality TV show in October last year.
Zenga competes with other mobile TV players like Apalya, Zee’s Ditto TV, Geodesic’s Mundu TV, Percept Knorigin, rather, PK Online‘s HelloTV, and Digivive’s nextGTV.
