BigFlix, the Reliance ADA Group owned video streaming service, is set to launch exclusive content: It will offer Playtone and Reliance Entertainment's multi-dimensional animated series Electric City, starting 19th July. Electric City is an action, sci-fi adventure animated series featuring the voices of Tom Hanks, Jeanne Tripplehorn, Chris Parnell and others. The series is based on relevant global issues and themes including energy consumption, freedom of information, crime and punishment and more. Unlike the US version where it will be streamed as multiple mini-clips, it will be offered as a 90 minute movie in India. The movie is available only for Bigflix subscribers. The series was initially announced in January, and was to premiere on Yahoo! in the US. However, the telecast is part of a global release, according to the company. Produced in partnership with Playtone and Reliance Entertainment, the series is created by Tom Hanks with executive producers by Gary Goetzman and Amitabh Jhunjhunwala, Vice Chairman, Reliance Entertainment Group. The series was shot within a budget of $2.5 million. It was also reported that Yahoo was already in talks with three to four sponsors. So it appears that while the series will be monetized via ads in other markets, it will depend on subscription in India. Bigflix intends to offer more exclusive content on its service in coming months.
