MTNL Q4-FY12: Total Revenue At Rs 843.06 Cr; Losses From Fixed Line, Cellular Services Increase

State run telecom service provider Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) has posted total revenues of Rs 843.06 crore for the quarter ending March 30, 2012 (Q4-FY12), recording a 1.06% dip from Rs 852.1 crores in the previous quarter and 4.37% growth from Rs 807.7 crores in the corresponding quarter in the fiscal 2011. For the fiscal 2012, MTNL reported total revenues of Rs 3368.99 crore, a decline of 8.3% from Rs 3673.95 crore in the previous fiscal.

Net loss for MTNL stood for Q4-FY12 stood at Rs 1374.4 crore, a significant 45.6% increase from Rs 943.9 crore loss in Q3 2012 and 25% increase from Rs 1099.5 crore loss in the corresponding quarter last year (Q4-FY11). For the fiscal 2012, the net loss stood at Rs 4018.44 crore, up from Rs 2801.91 crore in the previous fiscal.

Highlights

– MTNL offers basic landline, broadband and cellular services in the two cities of Delhi and Mumbai and its major share of revenue comes from basic services.  MTNL’s income from basic services during Q4 2012 was Rs 670.8 crore, a decline from Rs 678.28 crore in the previous quarter but growth compared to Rs 655 crore in the corresponding quarter, last year. The company incurred a loss of Rs 817.4 crore from basic service operations, a significant increase from Rs 601.5 crore loss in the corresponding quarter last year. For the fiscal 2012, MTNL’s income from basic services stood at Rs 2678.6 crore with a net loss of Rs 2360.1 crore, in comparison to revenues of Rs 3089.97 crore and a net loss of Rs 1789.41 crore in the previous fiscal.

– MTNL’s cellular services generated revenues of Rs 177.6 crore during Q4 2012, a decline from Rs 180.9 crore in the previous quarter but growth from Rs 158.1 crore in the corresponding quarter last year. The company incurred a loss of Rs 304.5 crore from its cellular service operations, a significant increase from Rs 100.4 crore loss in the corresponding quarter last year. MTNL was the first telco, along with BSNL to offer 3G services and offers one of the lowest 3G data tariffs in the cities where it offers services.For the fiscal 2012, MTNL’s income from cellular services stood at Rs 717.7 crore with a net loss of Rs 537.39 crore, in comparison to revenues of Rs 645.07 crore and net loss of Rs 385.84 crore in the previous fiscal.

– MTNL had accounted for Rs 285 crore during the previous year towards wet lease for infrastructure and other services provided for the Commonwealth Games, of which Rs 43 crore is subject to acceptance and final settlement. A claim of Rs 41 crore has not been booked subject to final acceptance and settlement.
