IPL 5 Round-Up: Avani TV; Mig33; Games; Merchandise

It’s the IPL season again, and brands & companies are ready to cash-in on the big viewership phenomenon.

AvaniTV has tied up with Indiatimes* to broadcast live IPL 5 matches on its AvaniTV car kit starting from 4th April 2012 – 27th May 2012. To avail this service one needs to invest in Rs 19,000 AvaniTV car kit and LCD Screen (sold seperately).The car kit is available in all major Indian cities including Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, Cochin, Pune, eastern UP among others. Apart from that, AvaniTV also provides other entertainment content from  Live TV Channels, Movies, Internet Videos, and Live Radio. To access the content AvaniTV has tied up with Reliance Communication for fast speed internet connectivity. Internet charges are applicable.

While this is an interesting niche for businesses to cash on the IPL hype, we think the service is a bit too costly. What stops customers to just download the Apalya’s mobile app, which is Indiatimes mobile partner? With the ever increasing mobile screen size and large screens being norm, one can just download the app on their mobile and stream IPL videos while being stuck in traffic.

Chat with IPL team Delhi Daredevils

Mig33, the popular mobile community app, has partnered with Indian Premier League team Delhi Daredevils (DD) where DD players will log on Mig33 for a chat with their fans. Mig33 users can participate in features like discussion threads, polls, image gallery, mini-blogging, chat rooms and gaming.

Mig33 has also launched branded avatar items and virtual gifts such as DD jersey, DD team, DD cricket bat, DD cricket ball, DD Logo, etc which can be purchased from the Migstore.

Mig33 currently has a 55 million user base worldwide including millions in India, South Africa, South East Asia, Bangladesh, Nepal and Pakistan. The app is also available on low cost feature phones. Previously, Mig33 had partnered with IPL teams; Kings XI Punjab and Royal Challengers Bangalore.

There’s also the official DLF IPL Cricket Fever game by UTV Indiagames which is available on the Web and Android, Nokia and iOS handsets.

Mumbai Indians Merchandize

Disney and Indian Premier League team Mumbai Indians have launched a special collection that includes apparel and accessories, footwear, stationary, home and toys, all featuring Disney’s Fab Five in fun cricketing attire. The limited edition mechandize “Mickey Cricket” range is created for kids age 4-14 and is available at all leading leading shopping destinations across the nation, including Reliance Trends and Hyper City, and also online at www.shopatdisney.in and www.mumbaiindians.com.

The Walt Disney Company India Vice-President Consumer Products and Retail Roshini Bakshi expects Mickey Cricket to draw close to Rs 12-14 Crore in revenue. Last year, Mumbai Indians recorded Rs 5-6 Crore retail revenue.
