Travel website Cleartrip now provides cab bookings for travellers who can avail the services along with flight bookings at no extra cost, and has also integrated Facebook Connect which allows users to share their plans on Facebook. Business Line reports that Cleartrip has tied up with Meru and EasyCabs to provide this service in Mumbai, New Delhi, Bangalore and Hyderabad, offering the convenience of booking a cab while booking a flight, instead of .
In order to book the cab, user needs to enter pick-up time, address and contact details right in the tab that appears once you book your flight tickets. Once you book the cab, you” receive a confirmation SMS either instantly or 30-minutes prior to departure. Users can pay the cab directly at the drop off at the airport.
While competitors like Makemytrip have been providing similar service for a long time, it makes us wonder why didn’t Cleartrip introduce this service earlier to make travel booking more of an adventure than trouble.
Apart from that, Cleartrip website becomes more social with integration of Facebook Connect. Once users sign in to their Cleartrip account, they can connect their Cleartrip account with Facebook account by clicking on ‘Connect with Facebook’ button on the dashboard and profile screens. Once you authorize the Cleartrip to access your Facebook details, will enable Cleartrip to autoshare your travel plans with your Facebook network. This is an opt-in feature which you can turn on and off as you please, you’re completely in control. Cleartrip will also send users with personalized travel packages based on their hometown, current city and birth date.
While Auto-share feature is an useful add-on where your network might help you plan your trip, it remains to be seen until how long this feature becomes a part of the noise on Facebook. The general trend on Facebook, which is usually overloaded with data, is that anything that’s not personal is an ad and ignored. At the same time, users might want to be careful about auto-sharing their travel plans in public on Facebook.
Makemytrip recently announced Tripalong, which is again a social application that allows users to share their travel plans with on Facebook and Linkedin. What’s different about Tripalong is that it also lets you find new connections with same travel plans.
