iNeedName Offers Domain Name Search On Google Chat; Our Take

iNeedName.com, a new product from the Indore-based Walkover Web Solutions Pvt Ltd, allows users to search for domain name availability through Google Chat/GTalk.

Features: iNeedName.com provides a chat bot (domain at ineedname dot com) which can be added by Google Talk users, following which they can search for domain name availability through the chat box. The company claims to provide instant replies to queries and support for 81 different TLD’s (top-level domains). Apart from domain search, the chat bot also allows users to access complete history of their domain search queries and set alerts for expiring domains.

Our Take: We tried the service and found it to be pretty basic in the current avatar. The domain search works as promised by providing instant replies to our search queries and it worked on Gmail accounts as well as Google Apps accounts.

That being said, we weren’t able to access our search history since the the keyword ‘history’, as noted in the company website, was being recognized by the chat bot as yet another domain search query and kept alerting that the domain was not available. Also, we weren’t able to set alerts for expiring domains. As an aside, we found it quite strange that the bot doesn’t support .in ccTLD, considering it is an Indian startup.

Ruchi Taneja, Concept Developer at Walkover Web Solutions told Medianama that the history and the alert feature should be available in the next 48 hours. When we asked what additional features one could expect from the service in the future, she stated that it would be adding features based on user requests. She also added that the service will be a Google Chat-exclusive service at the moment, but might add support for other platforms like Yahoo messenger or Live messenger, if there is a demand in the future.

Suggestions: As we mentioned earlier, the service is quite basic and could probably appeal to select users who are always hooked onto Google Chat, since it has lesser features in comparison to its web counterparts like Name.com, Domai.nr or other similar services.

iNeedName should at least provide a list of relevant available domain names, in case of unavailability of any specific domain. It could also probably add the ability to book the domain instantly by probably tying up with domain registrars.

Other Products from Walkover: Apart from iNeedName, Walkover offers a free SMS portal Whozzat, bulk SMS service MSG91, web hosting service HostnSoft and a voice over internet protocol (VoIP) solution Phone91.
