Music Block Update: 68 Indian Music Piracy Sites Down

Fifteen days after the last of the orders to block 104 (rather, 107, listed here) alleged music piracy sites was issued by the Calcutta High Court, 68 of them are now inaccessible on MTNL, Delhi. A list below.ISPs had been directed by the court to block all sites within 36 hours. We tried accessing them, and in most cases, we got a blank page with no notification for users that access to the site has been blocked as per instructions of the court, or a note for site owners informing them of the process of getting the block removed. 39 of the sites in the list still work. Note that while orders for blocking 104 sites had been issued, the numbered list included alternative sites - for example "19. gogrumogru.com/songs.ind.in", so it is 107 in total. So, it isn't a complete ban yet, and as we have seen in the past, it is likely that accessibility will be different across different ISPs - if you're not on MTNL Delhi, you may be able to access some sites which are blocked according to the list below, and not able to access some which are working. Songs.pk, probably the best known among (alleged) music piracy sites, relaunched at songspk.pk just weeks after orders were issued for its block. The Indian Music Industry (IMI), an industry consortium of 142 music companies, had obtained orders from the Calcutta High Court directing all 387 Indian Internet Service Providers to block access to these sites.
