CarveNiche, an online education service provider has received a seed funding of $0.2 million from Mumbai Angels, reports TechCircle. The organization will use the funding for expanding its sales team, R&D, product expansion and geographic expansion. The company, currently based in Bangalore, is likely to expand its operations in North India with the Delhi-NCR market and later on to Kolkata and the North-East. This is Mumbai Angel’s second investment in the education space this year, the first being eDream Edusoft where it invested $1 million in January.

CarveNiche offers educational content and services for K-12, Higher Education, Corporate, Government, Publishing Houses and Training Institutes. The company claims to have 1100 hours of content for classes VI-X and has tie-ups with 11 schools in India. It offers content development services according to specific learning requirements like induction and compliance training, soft skills, faculty development courses and others through WisdomLeap, their educational product suite.

The content development activities are carried out at its offshore location. CarveNiche also offers K-12 digital content which is essentially a digital version of printed text books supplemented with multimedia content. In addition to this, it provides mLearning services which includes m-Capsules which are short lessons for the learners, games and quizzes as well. Other products by the company include WisdomLeap Learning Management System (LMS), which assists teachers and students with grade management, assignments, activities management and individual learning plans and WisdomLeap assessment platform which helps the teachers to create and manage question banks along with the facility of grading and feedback.

One interesting feature that we found is ePortfolio that allows students to upload their academic documents including their achievements in the form of a spreadsheet, pictures and videos. The portfolio can be shared with teachers and with other students as well.

Earlier this year, Edusys also raised $7.5 million from Sequoia Capital to expand its business, enhance their product line and to improve their technology platform. Apart from EduSys, CarveNiche competes with EduComp, EdServ and Pearson.
