DTH operator Tata Sky has launched Tata Sky+ Transfer, a new set top box that can stream recorded shows directly on Android or iOS devices. The STB unit costs Rs 9,300 for new users, Rs 8,900 for existing subscribers requiring multi TV connection and Rs 7,200 for upgrading existing units. The STB comes with a 500GB hard disk that the company claims can record up to 625 hours of user instructed shows. This data can then either be streamed or downloaded by the user on their iOS or Android device and viewed within 72 hours, post which the data moved to the mobile is deleted. The company mentions that users will not need mobile internet data to download the shows to their devices. Note that according to a NexTV India report, content from Disney, Disney Junior, Disney XD, Hungama, Bindass, UTV Action and UTV Movies will not be available to stream/transfer as Tata Sky does not have the rights to allow transfer of some shows and channels. Other developments: - In January this year, Tata Sky launched a 4K set top boxes (STB) in India, which were capable of delivering content up to 3840×2160 pixels. The company launched the STBs with plans to broadcast the then upcoming Cricket World Cup in 4K. – Tata Sky had launched an on-demand video service Everywhere TV for laptops and desktops in June 2014.
