Industry Moves: MTNL Appoints AK Garg As CMD; Joy Chakraborthy To Be New TV Today CEO

MTNL has appointed AK Garg as Chairman & Managing Director of the state owned telecom PSU, MTNL, reports PTI. Prior to the appointement, Garg was serving as Director (Human Resources) at BSNL. He takes over from Kuldip Singh, Director (Technical) who had been given the additional charge of CMD in January 2010, after RSP Sinha, the former CMD resigned. Garg has over 33 years of experience in telecom, and before joining BSNL, served as Chief General Manager at Kolkata Telephones. The report points out that because of the absence of a full time CMD, MTNL was not able to take any major decisions. Garg joins in at a time when MTNL's revenues have witnessed an Year on Year decline of 15.7%, losses are at an all time high of  Rs 864 crore and the company's income from basic services has declined significantly to Rs 679.66 crore, from Rs 900.94 crore that it recorded in the same quarter, last year. *** TV Today Network, India Today's TV arm that runs news channels Aaj Tak and Headlines Today, has informed the BSE that Joy Chakraborthy has been appointed as Chief Executive Officer of the company with effect from November 30, 2011. He was previously serving as Executive Director, Revenue & Niche Channels, at Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (ZEEL).
