Months after being acquired by Facebook, Snaptu which used to be an application platform offering small Java apps for feature phones, integrating social networks and other news and information based services, has now announced that it will be shutting down most of its apps including Twitter, Cricinfo, LinkedIn with effect from 11th November 2011, reports Lord Banks. It also recommends users to upgrade to its new Facebook app. In September, Snaptu had removed the old app from its website and had started offering its new Facebook app. This was an expected move since Facebook would not have liked Snaptu to offer competing platforms. However, it's a loss to feature phone owners who had access to all social platforms through the light Java app with a mobile-friendly user interface. Screenshot source: Lord Banks
