Sify Launches Stockwatch: A Web-App For Tracking Stocks

Sify has launched a stock portfolio monitoring tool, ‘Stockwatch’ on its finance portal www.sify.com/finance. The tool is based on Microsoft Silverlight, and enables visitors to monitor and analyse market trends and individual stocks.

The web based tool is available in two versions: Stockwatch Lite and Stockwatch Advanced. While Stockwatch Lite is ideal for general users, the Advanced version is targeted at stock market experts and analysts. The tool can be used free of charge and does not even require online registration or logging-in.

Users can create personalized columns with their own stock portfolio of upto 50 stocks under ‘My Watchlist’, and keep track of different market indices like the BSE Sensex, NSE Nifty, small and medium cap indices among others. They can also select and view stock tickers for different indices and for their own stocks (upto 30), as well as get news updates related to stocks. The tool also offers advanced search to filter stocks based on various metrics such as price range for the day, during 52 weeks, low and high limits.

While financial portals like Moneycontrol, and stock brokerage houses like IndiaBulls have been offering portfolio trackers and market analytics tool since a long time, of recent, mainstream portals have also introduced similar tools. Rediff introduced Moneywiz, a personalized stock analytics tool.

However, Sify’s Stockwatch is a complete web-app with advanced features, and a highly customizable interface. The other good part is that we never faced slow-downs or browser crashes (On Windows XP with Google Chrome), even though the tool uses Silverlight, a third party plug-in.
