Samsung Electronics has acquired Zhilabs, a network and service analytics company, to pad its 5G capabilities. Zhilabs will operate independently, while Samsung will also create new technology with it. Samsung will use the Zhilabs’ automation and network analytics to: analyze user traffic classify application being used and improve overall service quality In August, Samsung said that it would invest KRW 25 trillion in AI, 5G, automotive electronics components and biopharmaceuticals over the next 3 years. 5G space heating up Last month, Indian telco BSNL tied up with Japanese telecom giant NTT and Softbank for technology on 5G and deployment of Internet of Things devices (IoT). NTT also agreed in February to work with BSNL to create a ‘5G test bed’. In August, Nokia signed on a $572 million loan from the European Investment Bank to accelerate research and development of 5G technology. This would help Nokia to implement “end-to-end” 5G networks, including all the computing, software and services. Our Samsung coverage here.
