Geodesic, a digital messaging and content solutions company, has reported consolidated net sales of Rs 248.46 crore for the quarter ended June 20th 2011 (Q1-FY12) , up around 24.8% from Rs 199.01 crore reported for the same quarter last fiscal. Net Profit for the period was Rs 83.86 crore, an increase of 6% as compared to Rs 79.12 crore during the corresponding quarter last fiscal.
The company points out that it incurred an Income Tax expense of Rs. 15.67 crore during the quarter as Minimum Alternate Tax (MAT), levied on companies operating out of Special Economic Zones (SEZ) since this fiscal.

Spokn, Geodesic’s Internet Telephony business launched click to call services: Spokn users can use the Spokn website to establish an international call on a hand phone or on a land line, or they can SMS the recipient’s phone number from their registered phone number to establish an international call. this eliminates the need to be connected to the Internet to make international calls.
Gaming: Geodesic entered the online gaming space with Carrom MP (AppNama’s Carrom review here), a multiplayer board game for the iPad, priced at $0.99.
Mundu TV: Geodesic says that Mundu TV has more than 4.15 million users, and has clocked 35 million minutes of viewing in seven months since its launch. It was launched across a range of Android Tablets including Samsung Galaxy Tab, Motorola Xoom, HCL Tablet, amongst others. Geodesic has also inked a deal with Micromax to pre-bundle Mundu TV on several of their Android phones. In terms of content sourcing, Geodesic has tied up with BAMM TV, to extend the list of channels offered by the company.
GeoAmida: Geodesic received orders from the following companies to deploy GeoAmdia (a low cost computing device) :
– ITC Ltd, to automate their rural fuel-station operations.
– Mobicash, an African enterprise working in the space of micro-payment to execute secure transactions at merchant locations. Mobicash will implement GeoAmida across four African countries
– Bartronics Ltd to roll out Financial Inclusion services for two large Public sector banks across thousands of villages. GeoAmida has been deployed at ten other banks besides the above two.
– SREI-Sahaj e-villages, a subsidiary of SREI Infrastructure Finance Ltd., for their financial inclusion services.
Mundu IM/Instant Messaging: Oberthur, second largest smart card (SIM) manufacturer in the world, will pre-bundle instant messaging solutions on SIM cards, globally. It has also signed up Smarsh Inc., a US based company in the financial sector, will provide instant messaging solutions on mobile devices including archiving and compliance solutions.
Mundu Radio: TCL Mobile Communication Co. Ltd will pre-bundle Mundu Radio on 10 million mobile devices. In terms of content sourcing, Geodesic has tied up with RadioBeta, a content aggregator, to expand Mundu Radio’s content catalogue into many more regions in the world, especially in Latin America.
Financial Information business: Geodesic has tied up with ShareKhan, Axis Mutual Fund and NDTV Profit to power financial products and solutions. Business Standard had initially launched this service powering the financial information section for Business Standard. Geodesic has also tied up with International Business Promoters LLC., to market and promote Geodesic’s investment and wealth management solutions and other financial services in the Sultanate of Oman and other GCC countries.
