Rohit Sawhney, previously the Head of VAS at Virgin Mobile India has joined Nasper owned Ibibo as the Head of Mobile. Ibibo CEO, Ashish Kashyap has confirmed the appointment to MediaNama. Sawhney will identify mobile opportunities for Ibibo, and look at taking Ibibo properties and games mobile, and enable usage of the site across device platforms. Ibibo recently launched their iPhone app, which essentially linked to its mobile WAP site, instead of updating content within the app itself. Ibibo has been trying to integrate its services on mobile and had launched voice based status updates and group updates last year. It has also made its social games including parking wars available on the mobile and even integrated telco billing for microtransactions. It also lets users browse news feeds, and download ringtones and wallpapers. Sawhney had been heading the VAS division including wireless broadband, music, voice and communities verticals since April 2008 and was responsible for new product development and innovation in the field. Previously he served as Director- Business development at Envio Networks India and as Head of B2B and International business-telecom at Indiatimes.
