RockeTalk, a mobile based social networking application has launched an app for Samsung’s proprietary Bada platform, which runs on Samsung’s Wave series smartphones. According to a RockeTalk spokesperson, initially the application will be available on Samsung’s web-based app store, available through the Samsung Apps interface on Wave phones and through the desktop client KIES. Importantly, Samsung will also pre-embed the application on new Wave phones, which should help RockeTalk acquire more users.
The application will allow users on the ‘bada’ platform, access to RockeTalk’s voice and video blogs, and enable sending of photos and video clips, live multimedia discussion forums and other existing features, in addition to video chat.
In an earlier interaction with MediaNama, RockeTalk had mentioned that it plans to expand to South East Asia followed by Africa, with launches in Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines and the Middle East in two months. It also intends to launch an Android app and a desktop version. Its key competitor in India, Mig33 had raised $8.9 million in third round of funding and had launched an Android app recently. Mig33 has an embedding deal with Lemon Mobiles.
