Himanshu Kapania To Replace Sanjeev Aga As Idea Cellular MD From April 1st 2011

Himanshu Kapania, currently Director (Operations) in charge of all the circles in the South and West for Idea Cellular will replace Sanjeev Aga (pictured: right) as Managing Director, with effect from April 01, 2011. Ambrish Jain, currently Director (Operations) in charge of North and East circles for Idea Cellular will take over as the Deputy CEO of Idea Cellular on the same day. Aga will continue to be a director on the board of Idea Cellular. Aga was appointed as CEO of the Aditya Birla Group's telecom JV, Birla AT&T Ltd back in November 1998, and led the company through a merger with Tata Cellular Ltd, to be CEO of what became Idea Cellular. From May 2005 until October 2006, Aga was Managing Director of Aditya Birla Nuvo Limited. Idea Cellular is the fifth largest telecom operator by connection base, as of October 31st 2010, with 76,023,551 connections. According to September 2010 data, it had the fourth highest active subscriber base with 88.08% of its connection base active.
