Mobile Share Trading was launched on the Bombay Stock Exchange yesterday, with 30 brokerages participating in trades via mobile on the first day. According to the BSE, others have also received approvals to launch mobile trading, and more brokerages are expected to go live shortly. Following a notification on Mobile Share Trading from India’s markets regulator SEBI a few weeks ago, the BSE hadissued its own guidelines to brokerages for allowing clients to buy and sell shares via the mobile. Rightly so, the stock market players – the regulator, exchanges and brokerages – are viewing mobile trading as an extension of Internet based trading, and following similar norms, which allow for easier roll-out and adoption.

Brokerages are allowed to use third party mobile trading solutions from vendors who have been empanelled by BSE: like Marketplace Technologies, Technova Religare and Financial Technologies, or use the In-house developed mobile trading solutions approved by BSE, called Fastrade. The BSE says that it will provide its members a test-environment to test the solution, and members can use existing IML IDs.
