Narasimha Jayakumar, Business Head (Travel and Local) for Google India has left the company to join VP(E-Commerce) for Homeshop18, looking into all of HomeShop18’s e-commerce initiatives, Jayakumar confirmed to MediaNama. Homeshop18 has an online shopping site and manages the e-commerce portal (Shop.in.com) for sister concern Web18. Jayakumar had been appointed Business Head (Travel and Local) for Google in 2008
He declined to comment on the state of Homeshop18’s e-commerce business, and said it’s too early to talk about plans. Google India confirmed is departure, and said that Jayakumar’s responsibilities are currently being shared by other business heads.
Homeshop18 is primarily a TV shopping business, but it is facing competition from News Corp owned STAR CJ Networks. For the financial year 2009-10, HomeShop18 reported revenues of Rs. 50.91 crore, up from Rs. 22.70 crore the previous fiscal, claiming a 92% increase in orders executed, and a CRM base of 2 million customers.
Prior to joining Google, Jayakumar worked with Expedia Inc., Cendant Corporation, Tata Consultancy Services and IBM India amongst others, running the B2B client portfolio for the distribution business of Expedia Europe based out of London. He holds an MBA from the London Business School and a Bachelor of Technology Degree in Computer Engineering from the National Institute of Technology, Surathkal.
Farook Mohamed Shamsudeen has joined Consim Info (Bharatmatrimony) as International Business Head. Shamsudeen will operate out of New York, USA, and will help Consim Info scale its global operations. He was previously Head of the South Asian Services with EchoStar Communications Corporation, a Pay-TV service provider, and has 17 years of experience in various fields including Sales, Marketing and Business Development with key expertise in Media and Communications.
According to Consim Info, at EchoStar, Shamsudeen was responsible for driving the revenue stream of over $100 million and also played an active role in the marketing and growing of subscription for various South Asian TV channels.
