Update: an interesting issue raised at Inforum, a forum on Indian domain names: the name Wonder Woman might be trademarked. Warner Bros had previously won a case against a domainer who had registered the domain www.wonderwomanstore.com, among others.
April 9th 2010: It appears that India Today has either relaunched or rebranded it’s portal ‘Woman’; woman.itgo.in now redirects to WonderWoman.in, and it’s sporting a completely new design. I chanced upon the site while browsing through India Today. On the face of it, the portal appears to target women in their 20’s and above, providing them with content related to the multiple roles they have to adopt in their lives; the usual fare: gossip, tips (beauty, weight loss, nutrition), recipes. Other big media websites specifically targeting this domain include Web18’s Indiwo and Indiatimes’ iDiva.
Women are the biggest target-group for advertisers like Unlever, P&G, Nestle and consumer durables: much of the advertising on TV targets women. Goosefish Media Ventures had even launched an network targeting women, called Diva Nation, but it was eventually integrated as a channel of NetworkPlay. We’re not sure if that channel still exists, but they (both the network and the publishers) are probably looking to mirror the success of GlamMedia. However, at present, most of the ads that we noticed on WonderWoman.in are through Google AdSense, Indiwo appears to be serving AdSense or Moneycontrol ads, and iDiva appears to be running Indiatimes Intel, Naukri.com campaigns, apart from, yet again, Google AdSense.
What’s interesting is the inclusion of a forum, though they’ll have to do something to jump-start it today. According to detailed stats available, the forum has 24 members, 60 topics have been posted, and the max nuber of users online at the same time were, well, seven, on March 22nd 2010. The male to female ratio on the forums should be a cause for concern – 1:1. Nice forum software, though. Indiwo also has forums, but the latest ‘discussions’ there are for escort services (screenshot). Doesn’t anyone moderate their forums?
