BSNL Exits Zamtel Bid

Indian PSU BSNL has quit the race to buy a majority stake in Zambia’s fixed-line phone operator Zamtel. Only three operators Angola’s Unitel, Libya’s LAP Green Networks and Russia ‘s Altimo remain in the bid to acquire 75 percent stake in the telecom operator. (Read more at Reuters)

DoT Rejects COAI’s Request

DoT has turned down a request by Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI)to let telcos exclude money that they earn from “porting” mobile numbers from their adjusted gross revenue , a part of which they pay the government. Mobile Number Potability is expected to be mplemented in India by May. (Read more at livemint)

Vodafone Objects To Quippo Deploying Active Infrstructure

Telcom operator Vodafone has written a letter to PJ Thomas, Secretary of DoT to object Quippo deploying actve infrastructure which can only be provided by service provider or licenscee and has has questioned a year old clarification by the Government on the issue. (Read more at Business Standard)

IPL HK Broadcast Rights

Now TV has announced that it has acquired the exclusive Hong Kong broadcast rights for Indian Premier League (IPL) for three seasons from 2010 to 2012. Now TV will broadcast the event on Channel 650 from March 19. (Read more at media research asia)
