Hi, what are you looking for?

MakeMyTrip To Acquire Bus Ticketing Site Ticketvala

Online travel agency MakeMyTrip is in the final stages of negotiations to acquire online bus ticketing company Travis Internet Pvt. Ltd, which operates Ticketvala.com, MediaNama has learned from reliable sources within the company. We're awaiting a response from Deep Kalra, CEO of MakeMyTrip, who is currently travelling abroad. The value of the deal could not be ascertained, though keep in mind that TicketVala had raised, according to Mint, $2 million from Footprint Ventures in November 2007. We'll update when we have more details. This acquisition is a little surprising, given that MakeMyTrip had claimed to have "the largest bus inventory in India with over 8,000 buses, 500 bus operators, and over 5000 routes across 14 states in the country". So why buy Ticketvala? Over and above bus services, Ticketvala also provides facility for car hiring and bus hiring, which could become a part of MakeMyTrips corporate offering. Last year, Bangalore-based Pilani Soft Labs, owner of Redbus, the website that offers bus ticket bookings and distributions, had closed its second round of funding from Inventus Capital Partners, Seed Fund and other unnamed investors. Other bus ticketing initiatives include  CustomerNeedz, Ticketkaran, Yatra Bus, BusTicketVala and Ixigo Bus.
