Government Launches Website On Tiger Conservation

National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) and TARFFIC have launched a website on tiger conservation  Tigernet.nic.in. The website will provide tiger reserve and wildlife officials easy access to important information about tiger deaths, poaching and seizures.

Russian Government Delays $677 Million For MTS

After crossing several hurdles including getting permissions from the Department of Telecom, FIPB and the Home Ministry, now it is the Russian Government that has delayed the $677 million investment for Sistema Shyam TeleServices (SSTL). SSTL has rolled out in India under the brand name MTS. FIPB cleared the investment in December for the Russian Government to pick up 19.8 percent in SSTL through the Russian Federal Agency. GTL To Buy Aircel’s Towers For $1.8 Billion

GTL Infrastructure will buy the tower business of Aircel for $1.8 billion. That will be an addition of 17,500 towers to GTL taking its total number of telecom towers to 32,000. American Tower, Crown Castle, Bharti Infratel and Tata Quippo had also shown interest in Aircel’s towers. Bloomberg UTV Appoints Manoj Padmanabhan As VP Sales

Bloomberg UTV has appointed Manoj Padmanabhan as VP sales. Padmanabhan will be responsible for ad sales and revenue monetisation of the channel and will report to Bloomberg UTV business head Deepak Lamba. Prior to Bloomberg UTV, Padmanabhan was director ad sales for Ten Sports. He was also part of the core team when Zoom was launched. (Read more at Indiantelevision.com)

Virgin Mobile Launches USB Modem Device, vFalsh

MVNO, Virgin Mobile has announced the launch of USB modem device, vFlash. The company claims a surfing speed of 3.1 Mbps and storage slot of up to 8GB with vFlash. The USB modem is priced at Rs 3499 and tariff options range from Rs 250 to Rs 1100 per month. vFlash also comes with a ‘live TV’ service with 40 TV channels.

BSNL Enters Second Round Of Bidding For Zamtel

BSNL has entered the second round of bidding to acquire a majority stake in Zambia Telecommunications (Zamtel). If BSNL wins the bid it will be its first global acquisition. (Read more at The Economic Times)

Get  Windows & Office 2007 Software On Rent From Microsoft

Microsoft has started a rental scheme for Windows and Office 2007 software in India, China, South America and Africa to restrict piracy in these countries. The rented software can only be installed once in a computer and cannot be reinstalled in other devices without paying the rental fee once again to Microsoft. (Read more at DNA)

IBM Bags Five Year Transformational Deal With UTV

IBM has announced that it has signed a five-year business transformation deal with UTV Software Communications. UTV will work with IBM to sharpen its focus within the organization on its core media business. IBM will be implementing various business transformation initiatives over the next few years. The contract also includes cloud-enabled email implementation via LotusLive iNotes, a Web-Based email service.

Uninor Has 1.2 Million Subscribers In One Month From Launch

Uninor has secured 1.2 million subscribers from 8 circles in the first month of its launch. Karnataka has the highest number of Uninor subscribers with 0.264 million, followed by Tamil Nadu (including Chennai) with 0.202 million and Uttar Pradesh (W) (including Uttarkhand) with 0.127 million.
