Google Wins Domain Name Dispute Against Indian

Google has won a domain name dispute against Indian cybersquatter  Racha Ravinder at World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO). Ravinder had registered a website www.googlenetbiz.com and has offered to sell it for $50,000. (Read more at PTI)

BSNL And Aksh Launch FTTH

BSNL and Aksh Optifibre has unveiled the Fibre to the Home  Technology (FTTH). This will allow BSNL and Aksh to provide multiplay services with high definition content to over 30,000 customers and iControl IPTV customers will enjoy speed of 100 MBS on their internet connections. FDI Up To 74 Percent In Mobile TV

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has accepted TRAI’s recommendation for 74 percent FDI in Mobile TV services. The I&B Ministry also agreed that digital technology should be used for the service but the choice of digital technology to be left to the service provider. (Read more at Central Chronicle)

DoT Warns SingTel

DoT may ask Bharti Airtel and Tata Communications to terminate their deal with Singapore Telecommunications, which is allegedly offering international long distance services without a license in India. Dot also plans to penalise other foreign telecom operators like AT&T, British Telecom, Equant (France Telecom) and Verizon for offering services without proper license. I&B Ministry Offers Online Portal For Checking Status Of Govt Approvals Of TV Channels

Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has started a ‘Satellite TV channels Application Tracking System’ (STATS) for complete transparency in the system of approvals of channels. Applicant companies can login with their Unique Company Identification Number and see the information related to the channels in respect of which an application has been submitted to the Ministry.

CDMA operators have urged the Government to hold 3G auction for them simultaneously with the auction for GSM operators to ensure a level playing field. (Read more at Business Line)

Tikona Digital Networks To Expand To 40 Cities

Google Sponsors Contest For Content In Swahili

Google is sponsoring a contest in Tanzania and Kenya to encourage students to create articles for the Swahili version of Wikipedia, mainly by translating them from the English Wikipedia. The winners will get prizes including laptop, a wireless modem, cellphones and Google gear. The contest has so far added more than 900 articles from more than 800 contributors. Reliance BIG TV Targets MDUs

Reliance BIG TV has restructured  its sales operation into two divisions, retail and institutional. The institutional division will focus on Multi-dwelling units (MDU) deals and is targeting a market share of 40 in the segment. Reliance BIG TV has already signed with Krishna Apara Group, Elysium Builders, Agrasen Builders, Janapriya Engg Syndicate and Diamond Group etc. The total deal is approximately worth Rs 20 Crores.
