Airtel To Outsource Management of Optic Fibre Cable Network , BSNL To Follow Suit

Bharti Airtel has invited bids for management of its 120,00 km plus of inter-city optic fibre cable network. The five year deal is estimated to be worth $1 billion. BSNL also is to invite bids for the same purpose in february. (Read more at The Economic Times)

Airtel Launches Caller Tune For Its Fixed Line Phone

Airtel has launched a caller tune for its fixed line phones called Family Tunes. The caller tune will be a pre recorded welcome message customised to the customer’s family name to greet callers. Airtel has a collection of more than 1000 most common Indian family names. There is a one time download fee of Rs 15 and a monthly subscription of Rs 30.

MTNL Bids For Acquiring Nigerian Telco

MTNL is among the 14 prequalified bidders interested in  acquiring Nigeria’s Nigeria Telecommunications Ltd (Nitel). Nitel has postponed the bid dealine from January 22 to February 15 on request from the bidders. BSNL will submit its bid on February 15. (Read more at Business Standard)

PC Sales To Go Up & Percent

According to trade body MAIT, the Indian PC market will grow 7 percent in 2009-10 period. Between April 2008 and March 2009 6.79 million PCs were sold, a decline of 7 percent over the previous year. (Read more at mydigitalfc.com)
