Mrinal Pande Takes Over As Chairman Of Prasar Bharati

The ex-editor in chief at the Hindi daily Hindustan by HT Media has been appointed as the chairman of Prasar Bharati’s Board after the previous chairman Arun Bhatnagar resigned in May 2009 alleging financial irregularities and the unsatisfactory working of the top management, according to OneIndia. Other members on the board include the CEO, B S Lalli, AK Jain who is the Member (Finance) and V Shivakumar, Member (Personnel).

Mrinal Pande headed Hindustan for nine years and stepped down in August 2009; Shashi Shekhar of Amar Ujala took over the post. Pande has since hosted a show on Lok Sabha TV called Baton Baton Mein. Her term will last till April 30, 2011.

Prasar Bharati

Prasar Bharati is the public service broadcasting division under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting handling Doordarshan and All India Radio (Aakaashvani). Doordarshan currently broadcasts 33 channels including eleven regional languages satellite channels and eleven state networks. It also offers a free DTH service called DD Direct +.

DD was given the mandate of complete digitalization of its terrestrial infrastructure by 2017, and cover the metro cities by 2010 in time for the upcoming 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi. It plans to establish two HDTV studios in Delhi and Mumbai and digitise, modernise its studio centers, transmitters and satellite earth station.
