The Government has accepted the resignation of Arun Bhatnagar, Chairman, Prasar Bharati Board. Bhatnagar had submitted his resignation a few months ago.

NDTV Launches Hindi WAP Site

NDTV Convergence‘s Hindi WAP portal for mobiles M.NDTVKhabar.com is finally off Beta and was officially launched on Thursday. The landing page asks the user if the handset is compatible with Hindi fonts and presents the site accordingly. Currently the site offers news, a photo gallery and film news. It plans to add videos and user interactivity in the form of polls and contests.

The portal does not display any advertisements but it appears that NDTV will include them too. Dainik Jagran also has a a mobile site in Hindi at Wap.Jagran.com. Another company that delivers news in Hindi and other regional languages such as Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam and Telugu is the Bangalore-based Greynium through its OneIndia Mobi portal.

SSTL Looks At Raising $400 Million For Pan-India Rollout

Vsevolod Rozanov, CEO, Sistema Shyam Teleservices, has said at the Mumbai launch of MTS that it plans to raise $400 million for a nation wide service roll out by 2010. The company plans to raise this amount in the next six months mostly from ‘local banks’. The western Maharashtra and northern Haryana launch is by early January. More at ET

The Ministry of Defence has released 10 MHz of spectrum as per thr MoU signed  between Ministry of Communication and Information Technology and Ministry of Defence (MoD) on 22nd May 2009.

Reliance Communications Registers Complaint Against Special Auditor.

ADA Group through its subsidiary Reliance Communications Infrastructure Ltd  has registered a complaint with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India against Jaipur based Parekh & Co, the auditor who had reported that Reliance Communications had under declared revenues to the government. Rs. 5.07 Bn And Rs. 3.78 Bn  Income Tax Due For  Tata Communications  and Vodafone Essar

Junior Minister of Finance has said that  Tata Communications and Vodafone Essar have income tax dues worth Rs. 5.07 bn rupees and Rs. 3.78 bn rupees respectively as of September 30. Indian Telecom operators have paid a provisional Rs 3.34 trillion as direct taxes to the Government in the financial year ending March 2009. (Read more at WSJ)

Ratan Tata Wants ‘A Level Playing Field’ For 3G

Ratan Tata, Chairman, Tata Group has suggested in a letter to the Government that all successful bidders of the 3G auction should be given the spectrum simultaneously for ‘a level playing field’. The DoT had earlier proposed that the spectrum would be awarded in phases due to the Armed Forces’ reluctance to free all the required airwaves. (Read more at Business Line)

BSNL To Buy Telecom Equipment From L.M Ericsson  India

Gurudas Kamat, Junior Minister of Communications has told Rajya Sabha that BSNL is negotiating prices with the Indian unit of L.M Ericsson Telephone for telecom equipments for north India. BSNL is to add 93 million lines on its mobile phone network for which it had issued tenders for sourcing telecom equipment. (Read more at Nasdaq)
