BIGFlix.com Ties-Up With Hulu; Monetization Through Ads

Bigflix.com will bring Bollywood movies to online video site Hulu, offering TV shows, movies and clips in the U.S. All the movies will have English subtitles so it appeals to others besides South Asians. On visiting, we noticed that BIG Flix has only delivered four movies so far: Gangster, Black Friday, Kalyug and Apaharan. The movies are complete and have English subtitles. They seem to have been up for a while now, reviews are 9 days old.

In a reply to a mail from Medianama asking about how they would monetize the views, BigFlix said that the movies would have pre roll, mid roll and post roll ads. They declined to disclose the revenue share model. Saavn had partnered with Hulu similarly a few months ago.

Chirag Shah to Head National Ad sales for Zapak

Reliance ADAG‘s Zapak today announced the appointment of Chirag Shah as head National Ad Sales. In his new role he would be looking after Ad Sales for all businesses – Zapak.com, Zapak GamepleX and Zapak live (activation arm of Zapak). Shah has been with Zapak for 3 years now, and was responsible for Ad Sales revenues for West & South region for the online gaming company. He has also worked with HT Media for four years. (Release)

Quasar & Scangroup Launch Digital Marketing Agency

Quasar Media and Kenya-based Scangroup, have launched Squad Digital (website under maintenance), a digital marketing agency for the East and Central Africa market. Kamal Krishna, former head of strategy and creative, Quasar, has been appointed as general manager to lead Squad Digital. (Read more at Alootechie)

Wireless Internet To Rural Schools in Nepal and Vietnam

Qualcomm Incorporated and Room to Read, a nonprofit organization  announced today the establishment of wireless computer labs with 3G CDMA broadband Internet connectivity for rural schools in Nepal and Vietnam.  Each lab includes 20-25 computers and serves as many as 50 students during a class period.  In addition to providing training for students to learn basic computer skills, each lab also plans to use technology to teach other subjects such as English, math and science. As part of the project, five wireless labs have been established in the Kaski and Kavre regions of Nepal and six labs in  southern Vietnam.  Qualcomm and Room to Read are working with Nepal Telecom and S-Fone in Nepal and Vietnam, respectively, to provide broadband connectivity in schools. Ericsson Provide Course Work And Discussions via 3G

IGNOU will tie-up Ericsson to provide facilities supported by 3G Mobile services in Open and Distance education. A certificate course in IT, covering 5,000 students, will be held as the pilot project. Each student will have to pay around an additional Rs 25 to the service charges they are paying now.
