NBC Universal could up its current 26% stake in NDTV Networks Plc, the holding firm for its entertainment and lifestyle businesses including online arm NDTV Convergence. (More on Mint)
FIPB Approvals: S&S Media, Dish TV, MTS, Devas Multimedia
Bangalore-based Software Support (S&S) Media India Enterprises Ltd has received approval from the FIPB to induct Rs. 0.30 crores worth of foreign equity into the company, which will publish speciality magazines.
DTH provider Dish TV’s Rs. 243.40 crore investment has been approved.
Telco Sistema Shyam (MTS) ‘s request to convert the company into an operating cum holding company has also been approved. The joint venture between Russian conglomerate Sistema (which owns 73.71%) and Shyam Telecom (23.79%) is valued at $3.5 billion and the Russian government plans to buy 20% stake in the company, Mint reports.
Devas Multimedia’s request to introduce a new foreign collaborator has been approved. Deutsche Telekom owns 17% stake in the company. Sahara One Media and Entertainment‘s plans to obtain foreign investment by NRIs and FIIs to carry out the activities relating to Entertainment Media, Motion Pictures have been deferred by the FIPB.
DB Group‘s FM radio subsidiary Synergy Media Entertainment’s request to increase the foreign shareholding of the paid equity share capital has been deferred. Synergy runs 94.3 MyFM in 17 cities. It raised Rs. 1.52 crore through preferential allotment of fully paid up equity shares in late-August.
UTV Software Communication‘s issue and allotment of equity shares has also been put on pause.
Are Keywords Trademarks? Google At Court
Google is up against the European Court of Justice on a case registered against it by a number of companies including Louis Vitton for allowing rival firms to use their trademarked words. Google puts its advertiser’s webpages (these companies being imitation sellers) in the sponsored results in its search engine results so when a user would search for the brand, they’d see these results as well as the original brand.
