19 Telecom companies from Israel will be visiting India with the The Israel Export and International Cooperation Institute, to meet telecom operators in the country, reports Globes Online. A year ago, six Israeli companies with the Israel Mobile and Communication Association, had visited India for a road show, and the IMA had also inked a deal with Shemaroo Entertainment for developing operator relationships in India. Little has been heard from the partnership since.
Of the companies visiting India, the following are companies in segments that we find interesting:
— Sagarmatha: generates loyalty solutions for telecom operators by providing automated analysis of historical transaction data of individual consumers, creating an optimized set of offers that fit the consumer needs and the goals of retailes and telecom operators. It creates promotions for telecom operators and content retailers.
Our Take on Loyalty Solutions: India appears to be enterting an era of increased customer churn, fuelled largely by cheaper and more innovative solutions being offered by the new telecom operators. Over the next year or so, as the land-grab of subscribers ensues, operators will realize that it’s one thing to grab, quite another to hold on to subscribers. Interest in loyalty programs will increase.
— Speech Modules: is a company that provides Voice to Text services, converting Speech to SMS, Email and Fax, apart from speech recognition based IVR and personal voice assistant. Warning: Archaic website…doesn’t work properly with Firefox or Chrome.
Our Take on Voice to Text: the voice to text space is gaining in importance in India, given that the rural segment now subscribing to services isn’t particularly comfortable with the English keypad, or for that matter, with typing. There is little doubt that the voice-to-text space will find takers in India, but there is already significant competition in India with companies like Nuance, OnMobile owned Telisma, startup MScriber, among others.
— Telemessage: provides messaging solutions, allowing consumers to message from PC to mobile using a toolbar and email plugin to MMS, SMS, Phone and Fax. The company also provides SMS to Landline messaging, converting SMS to voice, as well as Voice SMS services.
Our Take on Converged Messaging Solutions: For India, a complete solution might include the incorporation of the reverse as well – from SMS to email, particularly when the mobile number of the intended recipient is not known. This might be more interesting from an enterprise solutions perspective, rather than a carrier perspective. “Multi-modality” is a trend that Kumar Apoorva, COO, Valuefirst, had also mentioned at a conference a few days ago.
