Sri Lankan Teleco Tigo To Be Sold By March 2010

Millicom International Cellular Asia’s sale of its Sri Lankan operations, Tigo will be concluded by the first quarter of next year and is worth US$150-200 million. Malaysia’s Axiata, which owns 85% of the dominant player Dialog Telekom, is believed to be in one of the contenders, as is India’s Bharti Airtel. [SundayTimes.lk]

Deccan Chronicle Increases Advertisement Tariff

Deccan Chronicle Holdings Ltd announced an increase of 20% on its advertisements tariff across all its editons of Deccan Chronicle which will be effective from October 1, 2009. This increase has come up due to the success of Bengaluru having an cerified circulation of 2, 44,902 copies by Audit Bureau of Circulation along with daily circulation of 13,49,959 copies in South India. MTS Considers Indian IPO Next Year

MTS, which owns 74 percent in Shyam Sistema, is considering an IPO next year. The Russian government plans to pick around 20% stake in Sistema and will pay close to $700 million (Rs 3,500 crore) to acquire the share. [More at Economic Times]

C-DoT To Focus On Monitoring, Rural, Max NG, Optics

The Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DoT) has realigned its efforts with a focus in four major directions. RCOM & China Telecom Provide Connect India & China Via Terrestrial Cable

Reliance Communications and China Telecom announced the opening of the first direct terrestrial cable link between the Chinese and Indian domestic markets. The cable will provide direct, enterprise class connectivity between all major Indian and Chinese locations, and service neighbouring countries like Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka and even Pakistan and Bangladesh. Previously, the only available option for high-bandwidth connectivity between the two countries was via undersea cable routes through Hong-Kong or Singapore. Intuit Inc. and Web18 have signed a three-year partnership to provide a new financial management tool to Indian consumers on Moneycontrol.com. ‘Intuit® Money Manager’ will be Intuit’s first consumer offering in India. Intuit intends to announce other major partners in the months ahead. Following a series of trials with selected customers, it expects to release ‘Intuit® Money Manager’ in the fall of 2009. [release]

Directv renews Broadcast Rights With Ten Sports for ‘Cricket Plus’

Directv and Ten Sports, have entered into a five-year agreement that gives Directv exclusive broadcast rights for Cricket Plus, the 24/7 international cricket sports channel from South Asia. Cricket Plus is available on channel 2024 in Directv’s HindiDirect I and HindiDirect II programming packages, which are part of the international programming platform and are tailored toward the South Asian community in the United States. DQ Entertainment Signs Asian Broadcast Deal With Nick India for ‘Casper’

DQE announced a broadcast deal with Viacom18 for the 3D animated TV series Casper. The series will be broadcast on Viacom18’s kids channel Nick, from November 2009 across the entire South Asia. Casper is a co-production with Classic Media, USA and MoonScoop Group, France and DQE holds Exclusive Audio-Visual distribution rights for some Asian territories, under which the deal with Viacom18 (Nick) has been signed. The series has been produced at a global budget of US$9.36 Million by DQE Group.  [release]
