Airtel Inks Five Year Content Deal With Manchester United

mumobileTelecom operator Airtel has inked a five year deal with football club Manchester United, which will allow Airtel customers in India, Sri Lanka and Seychelles access to Manchester United  content on their mobiles, apart from allowing nominated Airtel customers to participate in Manchester United Soccer Schools training sessions, watch Manchester United UEFA Champions League games

Content on offer includes video clips of Premiership matches and UEFA Champion’s League Highlights, Classic Goals and Games of Manchester United, Match Feeds & reports and editorial features. Downloads of Mobile Games, Ringtones, animations, and Wallpapers o Cristinao Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney, Rio Ferdinand, among others will be made available. Airtel also says that Indian consumers will get access to ManUtd’s mobile portal  – frankly, anyone can access the portal via http://wap.manutd.com, but since quite a bit of the content there is on sale, it probably means that Airtel will provide billing in India for the content.

Updated: Live on Airtel Live, Not Accessible On MU Mobile

I’m an Airtel customer and a Manchester United fan – I just tried downloading an animation related to Rome 2009, and got an error message: MU Mobile was unable to identify my MSISDN number, hence couldn’t process my payment.

At the same time ManUtd content is available on Airtel Live – wallpapers, animation, videos and ringtones. Unfortunately, I don’t have access to Airtel Live on my number, being a Mobile Office user (off deck GPRS plan). Wonder why Airtel won’t allow Mobile Office users access to Airtel Live?

Do note that another Indian company – Jump Games – had signed a deal with Manchester United for creating mobile games last year.
