“Sharad Sharma, CEO, Yahoo! India R&D has decided to leave Yahoo! to pursue other opportunities. Shouvick Mukherjee, a 10 year Yahoo! veteran, has been named the new India R&D Head. Shouvick will spearhead the centers’ strategic contribution in delivering compelling global products and consumer experiences that touch the lives of half a billion Internet users worldwide. Sharad has played an instrumental role in shaping Yahoo! India R&D center into a powerful and strategic asset for the company and we thank him for his contributions.”
Original Story: Sharad Sharma, the CEO of Yahoo India R&D has put in his papers, according to LiveMint and OneIndia. MediaNama has contacted Yahoo India for an independent confirmation. Quoting Yahoo India, LiveMint reports that Shouvick Mukherjee will take over from Sharma, who will stay with the firm till April 2009.
A few months ago, Yahoo was reported to have laid off 40-60 people in India, and CIO Vishwanathan Krishnamurthy had put in his papers.
Sharma joined Yahoo India R&D as CEO almost 2 years ago. Prior to that, he has worked with Symantec as GM (India) and VP (Product Operations).
Sharma’s resignation comes close to the heels of another significant move – we had reported yesterday that Maneesh Dhir, MD of AOL India and EVP (International) for AOL is stepping down.
