Bixee Verticals

Update: As one of our readers, Kake, points out in the comments, Ibibo did have another search engine Dwaar. The URL http://www.dwaar.com now redirects to Bixee. We had reported in July last year that dwaar travel had been rebranded as Bixee Travel. Dwaar did have local search, which bixee now lacks.

Original StoryIbibo owned Bixee.com appears to have added more verticals to its portfolio: FinanceShopping andAuto. Bixee has Job and Travel Search, as well aggregators for Education, and Travel. Bixee’s approach to search and verticals is similar to that of Sequoia Capital funded Guruji.com. China’s TenCent Holdings owns a majority stake in MIH India, and consequently, Ibibo.

Finance: following in the footsteps of Google Finance, and Guruji search, Bixee has added a finance search. While the interface for the segment is primarily search, Bixee has integrated a news aggregation, much like Google News, and ibibo’s Q&A service Sawaal. We quite liked the stock comparison chart, and the fact that you can switch between multiple views fairly  quickly.

Compared to Google Finance and Guruji, Bixee Finance is fairly basic. What we found interesting is the loan search feature, which claims to provide the best deals for the day, for home loans, education loans, car loans and personal loans. Now, Bixee provides education search as well – we’re wondering why the education loans feature hasn’t been integrated with that yet. Bixee can do the same for the auto and shopping searches, and maybe also look at adding insurance into the mix.

Shopping: Bixee shopping appears to aggregate listings from multiple sellers; now if you take a product like a Nokia N95, which is an expensive product, it doesn’t help that Bixee aggregates multiple sellers, many of them unknown brands. Which the propensity to buy rather low in India, we think Bixee shopping should have aggregated known stores.
Auto: a lead generation based model, Bixee Auto provides both new and used cars, allowing users to narrow results by segment, price, make and location. Most importantly, Bixee allows users to get a quote for a particular car, by asking them to fill up a form. Bixee is in a position to provide this information as a lead for auto dealers. We’re surprised that Bixee hasn’t integrated car loans with this vertical.
What’s missing: Above all, ibibo appears to lack a local business listings search – which is the most popular vertical search segment in India. Music Search and Image search like Guruji, Matrimonial Search like Bandhan. Rediff probably has the most search verticals – all of them listed here.
An aside: Bixee search features ads via Ozone Media. This is strange, given that Ibibo has its own ad network AdWinks
