By December this year, Flipkart plans to add services on its app that will allow users to book a cab, order food or plan their vacation, reports ET Tech. The company is currently in talk with food delivery, cab and travel aggregators for this. Flipkart's senior director of monetisation and new initiatives, Prakash Sikaria told the publication that they will be following the same model as WeChat. Note that Tencent Holding Limited, which developed WeChat, had participated in Flipkart's latest round of funding, in April this year, along with eBay and Microsoft. Like Justdial, which will be one of Flipkart's primary competitors in the services aggregation space, Flipkart has a deep pocket and can invest heavily to bring a mass of service providers onto its platform. However, Justdial Search Plus has the first-movers advantage, and the scale that comes with having vendors that aren’t just online vendors: Justdial has been in the local services listing & discovery business for quite some time now. Flipkart has the advantage of a wide customer base, and offering them a suite of services on the same app will go a long way in ensuring they spend a larger chunk of their time on Flipkart's app. So, while shopping on Flipkart they won't have to exit to order food on Zomato, or book a car on Uber, they can do all of that on Flipkart's app itself, which can potentially reciprocate into users shopping more.
